Tips to Prevent Car Accidents

Posted By Paulsen Law Group || 19-Sep-2017

Most people do not understand or even consider the profound impact a car accident—even a minor fender bender—can have on their lives until they experience one themselves. While some accidents cannot be avoided, fortunately, many can.

In most cases, car accidents are caused by driver error. Crashes can also happen during inclement weather.

The following are several tips to help you avoid the possibility of a collision:

  • Keep your eyes scanning the area ahead. Always concentrate on the area where you will be driving in ten to 12 seconds. Doing this increases your chance of seeing a problem while still having enough time to properly react to it.
  • Stay diligent of your blind spots. Adjust your rearview mirror and side view mirrors accordingly to give you complete vision of what is behind you. However, do not only rely on them. Turn your head to look directly into the lanes beside you to avoid missing something you didn’t detect with the help of your mirrors. Furthermore, consider the blind spots of other drivers around you.
  • Look out for red light runners. Before entering an intersection on a green light, count to three and look both ways to ensure that no one is attempting to speed through a yellow light.
  • Watch out for children. Kids and animals can sometimes suddenly appear from between parked cars and into roadways. If you are driving in a residential neighborhood with children present, slow down and drive with caution.
  • Avoid tailgating. Tailgating is a common cause of accidents. Leave a three to four-second cushion between you and the vehicle ahead of you.
  • Keep your car well maintained. Avoid sudden stalls and other mechanical malfunctions by changing your oil regularly and keeping your tires inflated adequately.

If you have been injured in a collision in Florida that was caused by a negligent driver, contact our Dunedin personal injury lawyer at Paulsen Law Group today.
